Lyrics
You and I were meant to be
And I know it
But I won’t show it
Unless you do
Cuz the world outside is so unkind
And lying
Is how I survive it
And pull on through
Shuffling cards
And hiding scars
You know I can play a mean guitar
But I don’t really want your art
I want you
So take me for a spin
You know the winds are a-changin’
And your still aging
But I am too
And the mindless minds
Are writing lines
Of depression, and oppression
I’ll take the news
Touching feet
Playing hide and seek
You know I’ve got a PHD
But I don’t really want your degree
I want you
Who could have ever saw this coming
The moment that I first started running
Maybe there is something here in loving
Loving, loving all the way
So stab me in the back
And make them laugh
At my promise
I haven’t forgotten
How to sing the blues
And the righteous Christ
Is right on time
With his walking
And his sermon
And his beatitudes
Buying beers
And trading fears
I’ve got plenty still in arrears
But I don’t really want your career
I want you
Seems a lot like love
It seems a lot like love
Is finally in vogue
About Evan
Colorado songwriter Evan James makes indie folk and Americana-inspired music rooted in everyday life. A longtime music teacher and working musician, his songs blend acoustic warmth, energetic modern production, and reflective songwriting that often centers on relationships, growing older, and trying to stay connected in an increasingly online world.
Rather than building a larger-than-life persona, Evan’s music leans into honesty and familiarity. There are traces of campfire folk, alternative rock, and modern indie singer-songwriter influences throughout his work, but the focus has always been on writing songs that feel lived in rather than manufactured. Whether performing stripped-down acoustic arrangements or fuller, driving recordings, his songs aim for the same thing: sincerity without pretense.
Based in Colorado, Evan spends much of his time teaching music to young students, performing locally, and writing songs between the rhythms of ordinary life. That grounded perspective carries into his music, which often explores the strange mix of nostalgia, humor, anxiety, hope, and longing that comes with modern adulthood.
His upcoming release, “Zoomer Love,” continues that thread, pairing sharp generational observations with an earnestness that refuses to hide behind irony.
